Betcha didn’t know… how to ice proof your car windows. Expecting frost overnight? Just fill a spray bottle with three parts vinegar to one part water and spray on your car windows at night. In the morning, they should be clear of the icy mess. How does it work? Vinegar contains acetic acid, which raises the melting point of water – preventing water from freezing. What to do if you wake up to an already frozen car? Just spray the mixture on your window and watch it melt. Betcha didn’t know… how to prevent your car doors from freezing shut using cooking spray. Spray cooking spray on the rubber seals around car doors and rub it in with a paper towel, “Doors freeze when snow melts into the seals during the day, and then freezes at night,” says Robert Sinclair Jr. of AAA, The oils in the cooking spray prevents water from melting into the rubber in the first place.

Vinegar contains acetic acid, which raises the melting point of water---preventing water from freezing! * *Squeak-proof your wipers...with rubbing alcohol! Wipe the wipers with a cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol or ammonia. This one trick can make badly streaking & squeaking wipers change to near perfect silence & clarity. * *Prevent car doors from freezing shut...with cooking spray! Spritz cooking oil on the rubber seals around car doors & rub it in with a paper towel. The cooking spray prevents water from melting into the rubber!* *De-ice your lock in seconds...with hand sanitizer! Just put some hand sanitizer gel on the key & the lock & the problems solved! * *Fog-proof your windshield...with shaving cream! Spray some shaving cream on the inside of your windshield & wipe if off with paper towels. Shaving cream has many of the same ingredients found in commercial defoggers! * *Keep your headlights clear...with car wax! Just wipe ordinary car wax on your headlights. VINEGAR TO CLEAN YOUR HOUSE 5% solution of vinegar that is commonly sold in every supermarket kills 99% of bacteria, 82% of mold, and 80% of germs (viruses). Why did I not know this sooner?! Probably because vinegar is sold primarily for food preparation and vinegar companies do not advertise the other uses. With the help of the internet, I found recipes for cleaning the whole apartment. For some areas, particularly in the bathroom, I added baking soda to the mix. Here are my vinegar cleaning recipes. Equal parts distilled white vinegar and water (in a spray bottle, labeled) : use on kitchen counters, sink, windows, walls, mirrors, small appliances, ceramic tile. Vinegar (not diluted) : for tougher grease build up on stove top, toilet 1 cup vinegar and 2 tablespoons baking soda: to unclog drains. Pour baking soda first, then vinegar, let sit for 30 minutes, then flush with cold water. Baking soda sprinkled on a sponge: for more abrasive cleaning in bathtub. Scrub, then let it sit for 5 minutes and wipe clean. I feel good about this switch for a few reasons. First, the odor of vinegar diminishes much faster than bleach. Second, vinegar is a completely biodegradable product so it is safe for the environment. Third, vinegar is way cheaper than all the bottles of cleaning supplies under my kitchen sink. Also, I am buying less of the non recyclable plastic spray nozzles. So I found another way to save the planet and money at the same time. Yay!
