This is an example of structural functionalism from the level of the family. The family is where it all begins and if someone comes from a broken home (which is way too common nowadays) they are less likely to become good members of society. It is a sad fact but it is true because often children have a rough family life and we still expect them to succeed outside of there homes. How can we expect something like this if at the end of the day they go back to where the problem is?

When the melt down is starting have child pick a calm down activity Great Visual. I'd add a few more to mine: Run around the house a few times, do 20 jumping jacks, etc for my boys who are ultra-physical and could use the distraction of movement.
