Label the teacher! The teacher of a kindergarten class explained what a label was and they practiced on her! Then the students helped her label the classroom. If they did not know how to spell it they wrote the sounds in the word they did know!

I would add student writing on an index card with perhaps why they chose that cover to make it more student centered. Love the idea. * could also change it to say "but here's my writing" and display student writing samples

Going out with a BANG!  Last 10 days of school... each balloon has a special activity. Everyday you pop one balloon to find out what it is! (work without shoes on, eat lunch in the classroom, switch seats day, etc.)
