Icelandic Turf Houses - These hobbit houses sure do know how to go green, #house #hobbit #green #grass
The website does not say where this is from. Do you think these qualify as hobbit houses just because they have green roofs?
Authentic hobbit houses!Icelandic Turf Houses For over 1,000 years, Iceland has been constructing these turf houses, which blend into the landscape and capitalize on nature's insulation. While similar constructions in Norway, Scotland, Ireland and Greenland were only built by those who couldn't afford anything else, turf houses in Iceland were even built by tribe chiefs.

In a tiny corner of western Poland a forest of about 400 pine trees grow with a 90 degree bend at the base of their trunks - all bent northward. Surrounded by a larger forest of straight growing pine trees this collection of curved trees, or "Crooked Forest," is a mystery.

In a tiny corner of western Poland a forest of about 400 pine trees grow with a 90 degree bend at the base of their trunks - all bent northward. Surrounded by a larger forest of straight growing pine trees this collection of curved trees, or "Crooked Forest," is a mystery. Planted around 1930, the trees managed to grow for seven to 10 years before getting held down, in what is understood to have been human mechanical intervention. Weird though, why the tree farmers wanted crooked trees...

The Dark Hedges, Antrim, Ireland: This beautiful avenue of beech trees in Northern Ireland was planted by the Stuart family in the 18th century to impress visitors to their home, Gracehill House. It's reputedly haunted by a spectral ‘Grey Lady’ who appears at dusk, silently glides along the roadside & disappears as she passes the last beech tree.
The Dark Hedges, Antrim, Ireland. Over the past 300 years or so, the Beech trees guarding either side of the lane have reached up and across to each other, becoming heavily intertwined to create a natural arched tunnel where shadow and light plays through entwined branches. The trees remain a magnificent sight and have become one of the most photographed natural phenomena in Northern Ireland.
