The Good: Massie's Catherine the Great is a great listen. It's a great story, nicely told. Mark Deakins captures Massie's fondness for his subject. The Bad: The Russian. I am not sure why producers of audio books do not invest in bilingual readers!
looking forward to what should be an interesting read.
This month's book club selection.
Catherine the Great, the author makes Catherine and her period come alive. Great biography!
Film, Good Movies, George Clooney, King George, Thedescend, The Descend, Shailene Woodley, Georgeclooney, Great Movies
January 2012: "The Descendants", is brilliant. More sentimental perhaps than previous Payne films, all of which I loved, but charming and very funny nonetheless. Clooney is great, always very watchable. Payne shoots Hawaii very natural, beginning with everyday, mundane shots, then building to stunning scenic panoramas! Nice supporting turn from underrated Judy Greer, and look out for newcomer Shailene Woodley. #film #cinema #thedescendants #georgeclooney #alexanderpayne
The Descendants is a 2011 American comedy-drama film directed by Alexander Payne. The screenplay by Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash is based on the novel of the same name by Kaui Hart Hemmings. The film stars George Clooney, Shailene Woodley, Judy Greer, Matthew Lillard and Beau Bridges, and was released by Fox Searchlight Pictures
From Alexander Payne, the creator of the Oscar-winning SIDEWAYS, set in Hawaii, THE DESCENDANTS is a sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic journey for Matt King (George Clooney) an indifferent husband and father of two girls, who is forced to re-examine his past and embrace his future when his wife suffers a boating accident off of Waikiki...enjoyed the movie!
The Descendents. Great movie! Love George Clooney
the descendants - good movie

'Quiet: The power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking' (2012) link should lead to a TED talk by author ~ At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying;who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion;who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. It is to introverts that we owe many of the great contributions to society--from van Gogh’s sunflowers to invention of the personal computer.
Susan Cain, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking
For my fellow introverts. A must read.
great book, also a ted talk.

American Dervish by Ayad Akhtar (2012) | Hayat Shah is a young American in love for the first time. His normal life of school, baseball, and video games had previously been distinguished only by his Pakistani heritage and by the frequent chill between his parents, who fight over things he is too young to understand. Then Mina arrives, and everything changes.
June 2012 Adult Book Club- American Dervish by Ayad Akhtar (fiction)
"American Dervish is a brilliantly written, nuanced, and emotionally forceful look inside the interplay of religion and modern life. Ayad Akhtar was raised in the Midwest himself, and through Hayat Shah he shows readers vividly the powerful forces at work on young men and women growing up Muslim in America. This is an intimate, personal first novel that will stay with readers long after they turn the last page."
another Swedish crime novel...but had to finish it one day :)
Worth Reading, Lar Kepler, Book Title, Book Worth, The Killers, Dragon Tattoo'S, Stieg Larsson, Joona Linna, Fiction Book
The Hypnotist: A Novel (Detective Inspector Joona Linna) by Lars Kepler In the frigid clime of Tumba, Sweden, a gruesome triple homicide attracts the interest of Detective Inspector Joona Linna, who demands to investigate the murders. The killer is still at large, and there’s only one surviving witness—the boy whose family was killed before his eyes. Whoever committed the crimes wanted this boy to die: he’s suffered more than one hundred knife wounds and lapsed into a state of shock. Desperate for information, Linna sees only one option: hypnotism. He enlists Dr. Erik Maria Bark to mesmerize the boy, hoping to discover the killer through his eyes. It’s the sort of work that Bark has sworn he would never do again—ethically dubious and psychically scarring. When he breaks his promise and hypnotizes the victim, a long and terrifying chain of events begins to unfurl. An international sensation, The Hypnotist is set to appear in thirty-seven countries, and it has landed at the top of bestseller lists wherever it’s been published—in France, Holland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Denmark. Now it’s America’s turn. Combining the addictive power of the Stieg Larsson trilogy with the storytelling drive of The Silence of the Lambs, this adrenaline-drenched thriller is spellbinding from its very first page.
"The Hypnotist" ~ This one is as good as the Dragon Tattoo series. "Stieg Larsson without the rough edges" because it's better written. It has a great plot but is more literary. It's the story of a publicly disgraced hypnotist who has vowed never to hypnotize anyone again. But when he is asked to help solve a terrible crime, he winds up hypnotizing a traumatized young man who is the only survivor of the crime. That decision jeopardizes the hypnotist and his family.
