I found the idea last year on Pinterest. I made my own Golden Shelf Elf. Last year it became too hard to keep up with it weekly, so this year it will be a monthly award. The class that wins will have their picture posted outside the library, and will keep this award in their classroom. It ties in the the book, The Shelf Elf.

This is a fun FREE library media center orientation activity to use with students to review library terms, rules and procedures. It works best with students in 3rd through 5th grade. I use it during the first week of media classes with my students and the students are really engaged!

I've done this bulletin board every year, and the kids (and adults) love it! I send out a letter to the parents asking for random items, and this is what I got this year:) The item to search for changes every day.

TEACHERS! This is a great video explaining different parts of a non-fiction book: headings, sub-headings, captions, diagrams, glossary, the difference between fiction and non-fiction etc. The video is 6:32 long.
