The Sahara covers Algeria Chad Egypt Libya Mali Mauritania Morocco Niger Western Sahara Saudi Arabia Sudan and Tunisia, extending over 9000000 km². It’s the largest/hottest/sunniest subtropical desert with a year-round sunshine duration of 4,000 hours (or 91.3%) of daylight. Earth’s total current energy consumption rate is about 13.5 terawatts (TW). If we cover just 0.3% of the Sahara with solar panels that would provide us with 630 terawatts of power-more than 46 times our current energy needs!
