The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon: A Novel by Stephen King, Book Club Selection realistic woods scenes 3 stars
"The world had teeth and it could bite you with them anytime it wanted." The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon- stephen king
SUMMARY: Having wandered away from her arguing family during a hike on New England's Appalachian Trail, a young girl discovers that she is lost in the menacing woods with only her personal stereo and the Red Sox game for comfort.
Previous Pinner says: The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. One of my favorite Stephen King books. Unlike some of his other stories, this one is more of a psychological thriller than a horror book. It will leave you guessing through the end. Quick read and I highly recommend it for people who are not normally drawn to this genre. My daughter read it when she was 14 and loved it as well.
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Stephen King… one of my favorite books by him.

on my to read list
This was one book I looked forwarded to reading. May be due to the high amount of expectations involved, I was slightly disappointed in the beginning of the book. And the book is indeed disappointing, till you understand the underlying spirit of the parable. The book is about the journey of a shepherd, Santiago. After receiving a prophetic message in his dream, Santiago sets out on a journey to an unknown land in search of a "treasure".A journey which starts from Spain and ends in the pyramids of Egypt, and on this journey nothing is going to help him more than "following his dream". And he is to meet many people, including the Alchemist, who will lead him nearer to his treasure. Does he get the treasure? Yes, He does, in a place where he least expected to find it. The book is inspirational and is full of inspirational quotes. Did I enjoy the book? Well, Yes. I do not believe in "reading the omens" or "following your heart" but still I liked the book. Rather than seeing it as something that motivates me to "realise my dream", I would see it as a nice and sweet fable. Mr Coelho has not motivated me enough to "listen to my heart" but I have a strong feeling that I haven't really "read" this book; there is much more to be read between those lines. Maybe one day I will come back to this book and read it again. But one thing is definite: I will read any other other book by Paulo Coelho that comes my way. Good but will not make to the list of my most favorite books. 3 out of 5.

Fantastic Mr. Fox book cover
Bookcover by Donald Chaffin
Now that Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) finally showed up on a few Swiss cinema screens (on Bluray, as there are no digital or 35mm prints available) I’ve been heavily digging into the works of Wes Anderson lately. Since I don’t know too much about my readers, I’m curious how many of you have actually seen Fantastic Mr. Fox and if you liked what you saw. Please take a minute to answer the two questions on the right. Roald Dahl’s children’s book “Fantastic Mr. Fox” came out in 1970 with Illustrations by Donald Chaffin. Nowadays most editions are illustrated by Quentin Blake (see picture on the left) whose style is rather different from Chaffin’s. But Wes Anderson – claiming that “Fox” was the first book he owned – is very fond of Chaffin’s original illustrations and thus invited him to work on the production design. As you can see in these 1970 illustrations, Chaffin and Anderson share a lot of stylistic preferences such as made-to-measure suits, central perspective, axially symmetrical compositions and cross-section views: According to Wikipedia, this is the first edition cover (but it might as well be the one from 1978). Does somebody know about this? The original cover illustration according to the film makers Chaffin's concept art for the film The actual title in the film The tree and Mr. Fox in the beginning Axially symmetrical and cross-section through Mr. Fox's hole Cross-section through Mr. Fox's bedroom in the basement of the tree Digging in cross-sectio Central perspective Chaffin's version of the farmers On the left: the three farmers as puppets by Mackinnon and Saunders.
