Got skim milk? And while you're at it, get some fat-free yogurt and cheese, too (low-fat string cheese with a few whole grain crackers or a piece of fruit makes a great snack). Research shows that women who get their fill of calcium (most women don't btw) have an easier time losing weight. Get your fill (3 servings a day if you're not pregnant or nursing, 4 if you're on the pregnancy diet). Take a supplement if you can't get enough through diet alone.

For new mommies the goal is to eat healthy and not lose weight. Eat a diet rich in all essential nutrients for your health and for your baby's health as well. While an avergae woman needs 1500-1700 calories per day, a nursing mom needs approximately 2500 calories per day! So plan your diet accordingly. One of the things that you may be tempted to cut down are carbs. Resist it! Opt for good carbs like brown rice and whole grains to give you the energy a new mom needs.

Nursing Poncho - I ended up preferring these over traditional nursing covers (aka the oversized aprons) because as baby got older, his flailing limbs would do their best to expose me during nursing and the aprons shift around easily. This all-around 360 degree coverage really helped, especially when paired with a nursing camisole.
