Hideki Tojo was Japan's emperor and commander from 1926 to 1989. He led Japan during World War II and mostly fought in the Pacific Theatre. He is known for his surprise attack on the US naval base in Pearl Harbor. However, after the Battle of Midway and Guadalcanal, Japanese leaders began to recognize that they were not going to win the war and they surrendered in 1945.
