Unity - Crayons. This project was all about unity. 7th grades projects focus on an art principle. Here the kids had a unified subject, medium, technique, and substrate. What a great way to understand this concept. The kids all used a tracer (template?) - created via pinthemall.net

Roll A Picasso Art Game. This game is played individually with a dice. The students roll the dice and draw the appropriate part to create portraits in the style of Pablo Picasso. After rolling the dice 4 times your students will have completed a portrait in the style of a Master Artist. After completing one, the students can start the game over.

Art Rubric. I think this would be excellent to illustrate craftsmanship, effort, and elements/principles. It leaves out content/concept understanding and expressive qualities though.

Intro to pastels for kids: blending with oil pastels. I teach blending, but have never offered an activity sheet to practice like this... It make be very useful for differentiation, to help students that may otherwise struggle with understanding blending. It could also act as a means of assessment to gauge their understanding.

great pastel project for Introductory students. Get some flags and dip them in 'stiffy stuff' or whatever type of starchy, stiff glue mixture you come up with. Drape them over a gallon paint jug to dry. Set them on the table and turn down the lights. Have students squint to see values. Use a view finder to get the right composition. Students have to use THREE values for each of the three colors of the flag (ex. pink, red and burgundy for the red stripes). Oil Pastels are easy to blend.
