Word Wall Pocket Chart
What a fun way to do a word wall for describing words!!! LOVE it!! @Kelli Williams- would this work?...I know it is not a large display but for a writing centers...
It's basically a thesaurus on a bulletin board. This would be great for younger grades or even middle school that may not be ready to use the actual thesaurus or just need that visual to remember to use different words!- they can still use, as I call them, "fancy words!" Or a word wall for really young kids... Practice the words in each pouch... Especially if you lack wall space!!! Love it!
Language Arts - Synonyms: "Tired word wall" where kids go grab synonyms to use in their writing instead of the "tired words"... love it!
Classroom Displays to Rescue Tired Words! Tired Words! Tired words want to go to sleep. Let them rest! Don’t make a peep! Try to use a synonym instead. Let those tired words stay in bed! ... an excellent interactive word wall display. You could even adapt a transparent shoe holder. I’ve got one somewhere, so I might just do that to show you what I mean! That would be more versatile and hard wearing.. remember that little fingers can be rough and paper tears easily.

When children come across new words in print, place in the "dollar" column. Work backwards and help them generate words that mean about the same, but might be not as interesting as the "dollar" word. (The "penny" and "dime" words help children make connections between the synonyms and help them remember the meaning of the "dollar" words). This is also a helpful vocabulary activity when children are writing, place one of their words in the "penny" column and add more interesting words to the "dime" and "dollar" column.
