A swale, a pretty word for ditch or trench, carries and slows runoff water, improving its absorption into the soil. Swales can be wet or dry creeks, depending on rainfall. Study the slope and contour of the land to see the natural drainage pattern. Make sure there are no utility lines or major tree roots where you need to dig. A hoe is helpful in smoothing the freshly dug area to ensure water flow. Swales typically are wider than they are deep, slanting from one end to the otherfor drainage flow

You can turn drainage solutions into features that enhance your landscape—and protect natural waterways. Ditches can be landscaped as swales that look like creek beds or small meadows. Gutter water can flow into rain gardens that provide a habitat for butterflies and birds.

Get your garden started early by planting your seeds in eggshells indoors before the weather permits outdoor growth. There are several reasons why eggshells are the perfect pot for this, but the biggest is that they are cheap (free really), full of calcium to give your seedlings that extra boost, and easy to plant in the garden when ready (the shell can stay on!).

Spring is coming and this is the BEST Weed Spray. I made 3 gallons for around $4.00 last year after seeing a pin. Worked better than Round Up & killed the weeds/stray grass on first application. One gallon of APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, 1/2 c table salt, 1 tsp Dawn. Mix and pour into a smaller spray bottle. (you can purchase 3 gallon size Apple Cider Vinegar in the canning section of a good hardware store - cheap!)
