So true! heard that the last of the Saturday morning cartoons have been cancelled. I thought that was a tradition that would stand the test of time...I guess kids have their i pads & videos. no more Johnny Quest or Felix the Cat.
Saturday Morning Cartoons. Kind of sad today's kids don't have this. They get cartoons 24/7. Nothing to look forward to.
Remember when cartoons were only on one day a week and Saturday mornings were the best time of the week. You were cooking and cleaning, and came in and out of the room to shre special moments of laughter. Thanks Mom
Cartoons came on one day of the week. Every kid was up early on Saturday morning

THE CARPENTERS, brother and sister duet who were very famous in the 60s. They turned out hit after hit. I still love their music and listen to it often. Every Christmas I still hear their Christmas album playing everywhere. Karen Carpenter died very young of complications from an eating disorder.
The Carpenters-Karen Anne Carpenter (1950–1983) was an American singer and drummer. She and her brother, Richard, formed the 1970s duo The Carpenters. She is best remembered for her vocal performances of idealistic romantic ballads of true love. Signature song is "We've Only Just Begun" which remains a popular wedding ballad.
The Carpenters ~ I loved them, they were such good singers. It was so sad when Karen Carpenter died from anorexia.
So very sad when Karen Carpenter died. So much talent and so young! I loved the music of the Carpenters.
The Carpenters- brother and sister Richard and Karen. Karen died young from conditions related to anorexia nervosa.
The Carpenters - this is a silly 70s photo of them, but Karen Carpenter had and still has one of the most beautiful voices ever - please go listen to their songs again. It's worth your time.
So very sad when Karen Carpenter died. So much talent and so young! I loved the music of the Carpenters. We had "We've Only Just Begun" played as we left the church when we married.
The Carpenters - I was called KAREN in junior high because they thought I looked like Karen Carpenter

Cheech & Chong are a comedy duo consisting of Richard "Cheech" Marin and Tommy Chong who found a wide audience in the 1970s and 1980s for their films and stand-up routines, which were based on the hippie and free love era, and especially drug and counterculture movements, most notably their love for cannabis. For music class and learning how to write the alphabet...ahh yes, I remember this teacher's chalkboard tool well.
Five-line chalk holder to draw music staff on blackboard. Our teacher used it in grade school. Sometimes it squealed when she wrote...
five-line chalk holder - very popular in music class or when teacher was demonstrating on the board how to do cursive writing
Five-line chalk holder for music class. So excited when I got to make lines on the chalkboard for my music teacher with this!
Our grade school music teacher had one of these! And whenever we had music class, she would sing, "Good morning, boys and girls..." and we would have to sing "Good morning" back to her.
Oh my goodness! Teachers used these multiple chalk holders to write straight lines on the chalk board.
five-line chalk holder for music class - my teeth are tingling just from looking at this photo. And I thought nails on a chalkboard were bad!

Childhood Memories, 70S, Filmstrip Projector, Elementary School, Movie, Film Strips, Classroom Filmstrips, Kid
Filmstrip Projector - they always assigned the kid who couldn't keep track of the beeps to advance the film strip!
Classroom filmstrips... Sadly, I missed these. My alternative elementary school wasn't into showing videos, and by high school they were already a relic.
Classroom filmstrips. It was a big deal if you were chosen to turn the knob to advance the film strip.
Filmstrip projector We lived for filmstrips in elementary school. If not threaded correctly the film would burn up. LOL
Classroom filmstrips. It was a treat to be chosen to turn the film. Will our kids have any idea what this was?
Film Strip Projector. The teacher would play a tape (or sometimes read) and there would be a "boop" sound when you needed to change the picture. A kid would be chosen to be in charge of this and if they missed their cue by even a second all the other kids would be like "come on!"
Film Strip Projector- never as fun as movie day, film strips were universally boring.

They used to have kids chew these in school to teach us to brush our teeth properly. What a great childhood memory!
70s - 80s: When you would go to the dentist, he would have you brush your teeth, then give you this pill to chew it. It would temporarily stain your teeth were you missed brushing.
Haha. I remember these!! In Elementary school, a dentist would visit and give you these red ink stain tablets to teach you how to brush
The red ink stain to teach you how to brush. These were so entertaining in school! I remember in 5th grade there were kids with super bright pink teeth and they thought it was great! It actually did make me realize I needed to do better in brushing my teeth, and how some kids were quite behind my developmental level when it came to hygiene!
The pink tablets that showed red ink stains on your teeth to show you where you need to brush at school.
The red ink stain to teach you how to brush, so remember doing this with my sister @Katrina Colletti Nowicki
The red ink stain to teach you how to brush shows plaque. I would have never remembered these if I had not seen these on here.

Memory lane! Do teachers still give out star stickers! The Gold star was the one everyone wanted.
Lick and Stick stars! Think all my elementary school teachers had these for all my A+ papers!

Sony Betamax ad, 1978. I remember RENTING one of these (along with movies to watch), from the Video store when I was a kid - In the days before the VCR was a household item.
This vintage ad from Sony, featuring their Betamax SL-8600 video recorder, boasted over 3 hours recording ‘even when you’re out of your house’. Sony’s Betamax video format was originally introduced in 1975 and, for over a decade, battled it out with JVC’s VHS format. Despite many believing it was the superior of the two, Betamax eventually lost the video format war to VHS.
This Sony Betamax ad from 1978 makes me realize how far video production and distribution has come. The Betamax was the first consumer-grade recording format. I wonder what the picture on a Betamax looks like when compared to the Blu-Ray players we have now.
Sony Betamax 1975 - The original home video playback system. Sony blew their chance to make mucho denaro by making the patent rights too expensive leading to the development a rival format called VHS. This became the affordable alternative and caused the extinction of Beta systems-a very expensive lesson learned for Sony.
Sony Betamax 1975. Approximately $1,000 at the time. Dead to VHS in 10 years. But "time shifting" changed how we all watched TV.
A SONY BETAMAX Video Recorder ... started the whole video craze allowing TV video recordings of favorite shows!

Lego ad, 1981, targeting all kids, not just boys can play w/ legos and all girl toys don't have to be pink.
Loved playing with Legos when I was a kid in the 80's. Still do, actually. :) Lego ad from 1981. Before girls were told that every single last thing in their life needed to be pink.
1981 Lego ad- tells girls that they can build beautiful stuff, kid speak for "Don't let anyone impose gender stereotypes on you!"
Lego 1981. Love this ad. Before girls were told that every single last thing in their life needed to be pink. The toy that made us want to be architects
Lego's 1981 ad campaign. In contrast to new "girl friendly" legos that are all about being pink, purple, and allegedly "feminine." Why must all toys be so gendered? Please give kids less pink and blue, and more creativity!
LEGO Ad From 1981 Should Be Required Reading For Everyone Who Makes, Buys Or Sells Toys Pay attention, 2014 Mad Men: This little girl is holding a LEGO set. The LEGOs are not pink or "made for girls." She isn't even wearing pink. The copy is about "younger children" who "build for fun." Not just "girls" who build. ALL KIDS.
Lego 1981. Love this ad. Before girls were told that every single last thing in their life needed to be pink. I can' imagine seeing a lego ad (or any other toy) with a girl like this on it these days. Sad.
Lego 1981. Before girls were told that every single last thing in their life needed to be pink. (I've seen what looks like an update of this running recently with the Lego Friends line - which I still hate but at least they're showing that you can build whatever you want with it not just stupid beauty salons)
