The Strand Theatre in Shreveport, LA,opened in 1925 as a Vaudeville venue & nicknamed "The greatest theatre of the South" & the "Million Dollar Theatre" by its builders, Julian & Abraham Saenger of Shreveport. By the 1940s it had evolved into a movie cinema until its closure in 1977. Saved from demo by citizens who restored over a nearly 7 year period. The Official State Theatre of LA. Since its re-opening in 1984 it has served as a performing arts venue.
