How to Train Your Dragon Books by Cressida Cowell. Great for reluctant readers, kids who like (sometimes gross) humor and adventure.  And they connect up as you near the end.  (Though the final book has yet to be published, i have faith all questions will be answered, all problems will be solved for better or worse.) Great for Wimpy Kid fans who are ready for some fantasy.
