I first met this Dr Seuss book when my college roomate and I were having drunk musings one night... he wrote quotes from it for me!
As a little girl I was obsessed with Dr. Seuss books (from the library, don't think I ever owned any). I'd read them again and again and again. Now as an adult, I see that some of those "simple stories" fulfilled my longing to go places and see things I'd never seen before. The longing continues......

Mrs. Sally recommends- In a reversal of the Goldilocks story, a bear explores the home of the three Blairs while they are out. "A topsy-turvy version of an old favorite that will find a delighted audience among the young." — Booklist
"Somebody and the Three Blairs": We know what happened when Goldilocks went exploring in the forest and into a bear's home. But what if it had been the other way around? What kind of mischief would a little bear cub named Somebody get into if he just happened to stroll into the home of Mr, Mrs, and Baby Blair? This is a delightful version of the story that charms most children instantly, as Baby Blair tends to charm most grown ups.
Somebody And The Three Blairs (Orchard Paperbacks): Marilyn Tolhurst, Simone Abel

Complete Book Of The Flower Fairies: Lovely rhymes and beautiful fairies drawings by Cicely Mary Barker
The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker - I love the illustrations and flower descriptions.
The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker. $16.50. Publication: October 14, 2002. 192 pages. Series - Flower Fairies. Author: Cicely Mary Barker. Publisher: Warne (October 14, 2002). Reading level: Ages 5 and up. Save 34% Off!
The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies: Cicely Mary Barker - A good collection and it has some extras but I do recommend getting the eight individual books that make up this collection. Cicely Mary Barker is, in my opinion, one of the best fairy illustrators ever. Her fairies do not have the dark side depicted by many fairy artists...but they satisfy the dreams of fairy loving children for the details and magic, sweetness and romance of fairy children. Nothing scary here. Simply...beautiful.

Great Children's book The Little Island (Dell Picture Yearling) Margaret Wise Brown, Leonard Weisgard: Books
The Little Island (1947) by Golden MacDonald, illustrated by Leonard Weisgard The little island starts out feeling lonely, but as the seasons change, so does the feeling. A great way for young children to explore the seasons, and to learn that when you think about it, you are not as alone as you think you are.
The Little Island by Golden MacDonald. Illustrations by Leonard Weisgard won this book the 1947 Caldecott Medal. Did you know that "Golden MacDonald" was a pseudonym for the author Margaret Wise Brown (author of favorites like The Runaway Bunny and Goodnight Moon)?
The 1947 Caldecott Medal winner was Leonard Weisgard for "The Little Island," written by Margaret Wise Brown.
"May be I am an island too . . . a little fur Island in the air." Golden MacDonald is Margaret Wise Brown's pen name for this masterpiece. It is, I think, one of the best children's books, one of the ones you seem to have to read aloud over and over again. Donne lovers will note the connection to Donne through the little kitten visitor to the island. Lovely stuff!
