I am heartbroken, a BIG piece of my childhood gone. :( RIP Dick Clark, you were amazing.
1950s culture - Dick Clark's American Bandstand
I remember: In August 1957, American Bandstand, a new television show broadcast out of Philadelphia, PA, featured local teenagers dancing to the new rock ‘n roll music. The show had just “gone national” on the ABC television network on August 5th. With its new young host, Dick Clark, the show aired every day at 3 p.m. for an hour-and-a-half.

Dick Clark American Bandstand - I watched this every Saturday morning
On a regular bases, I watched Dick Clark's, American Bandstand for new music and dances. Born Richard Augustus Wagstaff Clark, Jr.; November 30, 1929 – April 18, 2012) was an American radio personality and television personality, as well as a cultural icon who remains best known for hosting American television's longest-running variety show, American Bandstand, from 1957 to 1987. This Saul Bass classic is without a doubt, my favorite movie poster. Though it was created for the sole purpose of film promotion, it seemed to function on a much higher level from the moment it debuted. Bass' work here was revolutionary and not simply because it was different. With it, he boldly stated that functional images such as advertisements could have true artistic merit. His "Movie Art" was, simply, "art." And that made all the difference.
