rainbow names craft in an ESL classroom

beginning of the year name book

Reading Begins with the Child's Name: RoundUP at RainbowsWithinReach

First few days of school, Peek at my Week Linky and a Sale

Name sort activity - by letter. I might do this with the letter of the week. I'll pick out the names that have that letter in them, write them on chart paper, and then have the kids help me find the letter.

Even more fun, make a class book, with each student getting a page. The words would be in a speech bubble, "I am----", or "My name is---and I like---". Kids who are ready for more complex sentences could interview kids and write the results.

The kids rainbow write their classmates names. They trace over each name 5 times. The teacher has a free download of the master on her blog.

Measurement: The kids write their names, one letter to a square. And put the names in order from shortest to longest (or longest to shortest!) We talk about how the squares on the paper helped us keep our letters the same size and why that's important.

How Many Letters Are in Your Name - Counting!

This is a cool art activity for kids to learn about their classmates. what you do is you wrie the kids name on the piece of paper. Then have them draw a line from their name to an empty space and write something about themselves. Whether it be their favorite color, food, actibity, etc. This is a great thing to fingure out what they have in common with their class mates.
