I do this each year in my own classroom by giving each student 10 or 12 random hearts (they can swap if they want) and let students write their own Valentine letter based on their heart candies. Kids have loved it for 15 years. lmg
An easy way to keep track of student conferences! Just tape index cards to a file folder - boys on one side, girls on the other. You can easily flip through and write anecdotal notes and the date you met with your students. It is a great reference for report cards and parent meetings.

(There are three types of root words: prefixes, suffixes, bases.) If students apply the meaning of word parts to unfamiliar words, they can determine the meaning of new content-area academic vocabulary. According to literacy expert Timothy Rasinski, this is known as the generative principle: one root can generate the meaning of 5-20 new words.
Free poetry book and posters to help you students learn important terms. They can add a page at a time as we learn about different poems. When they are completed, the students can take them home to show their families and have as their own book.
