ON April 11, 1816 Richard Allen was named the first Bishop of the AME Church. Several African Methodist Churches met around the country and that year they formed the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church. He opened his first church in 1794 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was elected the first bishop of the AME Church. The AME church is the oldest denomination among independent African-American churches.

The Reims Catherdral is a great example of a Roman Catholic Cathedral that we still are influenced by today in churches. The stained glass is breath taking. A lot of churches today have stained glass above the choir just like this cathedral. Cathedrals were at a huge scale like the ancient Greeks. Cathedrals were very detailed with mosaics painting and just the struture itself. The cathedrals were meant to be this beautiful place for you to go and worship and get away from the world.
