Annie Gale was the first woman elected to public office in Canada (and possibly the whole of the British Empire) in 1917. She was elected with STV Proportional Representation. Canada's failure to keep PR in our western cities, and its failure to adopt PR at all levels of government is a huge part of why, a century later, 26% women elected to the House of Commons is considered a milestone.

Call me crazy, but the Supreme Court of Canada ruled no less than 3 times that the Canadian Government acted against the interests of a 15 year old child instead of following Canadian law and defending the rights guaranteed him under our Charter.
