    The last king of Italy - Umberto II reigning for only 33 days and he was known as the "May King". He married Princess Maria Jose of Belgium. King Vittorio Emanuele III abdicated in favor of Umberto II in an effort to save the Italian kingdom after WW II but a referendum removed Umberto II though the vote was highly controversial, very close. Umberto II lived the rest of his life in exile, he never set foot in his native land again. He died in 1983 in Switzerland.
