Sir Charles Chaplin
Can we just mention how absolutely beautiful Charlie Chaplin is? (And I do mean "is," for fantastic actors never really die. Rather, they seem to nest themselves inside one's heart, specifically: mine.)

Some years ago, Werner Herzog was on a flight somewhere in Colorado and the plane's landing gear wouldn't come down. They would have to make an emergency landing. "We were ordered to crouch down with our faces on our knees and hold our legs," says Herzog, "and I refused to do it." The co-pilot came out from the cabin and ordered him to do as he was told. "I said, 'If we perish I want to see what's coming at me, and if we survive, I want to see it as well. In the end, the plane landed normally.

"I have to make what I see, whether it's a painting, a table, or a movie, or it's like a death and what would be the point of that?" ~ David Lynch by Sebastian Kim ...P.S. "Once it becomes specific, it's no longer true to a lot of people, where if it's abstract there could be some truth to it for everyobdy." Keep 'em guessing Lynch.

Fritz Lang (shooting "Metropolis"). Among his most famous Films Noir, The Big Heat, '53, noted for uncompromising brutality. Lang's visual style simplified (owing in part to Constraints of Hollywood's Studio System). His worldview became increasingly pessimistic, culminating in the Cold, Geometric Style of his last American films, While the City Sleeps ('56) & Beyond a Reasonable Doubt ('56). wikipedia ~Repinned Via April Johnston
