Stromness on the Orkney Islands-The first time I saw Stromness from the ferry, I cried. It was like coming home, although I'd never set foot on the island or in the town in this life prior to 11 July 2003. I've since been back twice more, and someday I will live in Orkney!
Skara Brae is a stone Neolithic settlement on the island of Mainland in the Orkneys. It was inhabited from roughly 3150 to 2500 B.C. It is the most intact Neolithic settlement in Europe, gaining it UNESCO World Heritage Site status and the nickname of “Scottish Pompeii”.
