Jacques Louis David, Les Sabines, 1799. After the abduction of the Sabine women by the neighboring Romans, the Sabines attempted to get them back - David depicts this episode here. The Sabine women are intervening to stop the bloodshed. Hersilia is throwing herself between her husband, the king of Rome, and her father, the king of the Sabines. David is using the subject to advocate the reconciliation of the French people after the Revolution. His increasingly simple style is inspired by Ancient Greece. Musée du Louvre

(Photo of Chichester Canal by Joseph Turner, 1828) As Mrs. Bennet was a member of the upper middle class, she probably had some art in her estate, like this early 19th century painting for example.
JMW Turner - Chichester Canal This is an oil painting on canvas created in 1829, featuring a canal through the middle of the canvas, seperating two banks, and a boat in the background. The paint applied is very thick, and the entire painting has a strong yellow tint. These semi-abstract oil paintings of water are similar to the works of Ken Bushe, for example: http://tinyurl.com/nwr5m8t
