Oliver Sacks on Learning He Has Terminal Cancer

Oliver Sacks on living and dying. What a wonderful piece: a piece written by a man who has made his mark and will be missed!! I particularly like this quote, and concur: "I rejoice when I meet gifted young people....I feel the future is in good hands."

February 27 1973 The American Indian Movement occupies Wounded Knee, South Dakota. Leaders Russell Means (Oglala Sioux) and Carter Camp (Ponca), with 200 activists and the Lakota (Sioux) of the Pine Ridge Reservation occupied the town for 71 days to protest government failures to honor treaties with Native Americans. Many supporters joined the protest. There was public sympathy for the occupation, as Americans were becoming more aware of injustice related to American Indians.

Jorge Ramos Delivers Riveting Speech At 2014 CPJ Press Freedom Awards

Jorge Ramos: "The best of journalism happens when we take a stand: when we question those who are in power, when we confront the politicians who abuse their authority, when we denounce an injustice. The best of journalism happens when we side with the victims, with the most vulnerable, with those who have no rights. The best of journalism happens when we, purposely, stop pretending that we are neutral and recognize that we have a moral obligation to tell truth to power."

Desmond Tutu: I'd Choose Hell Over A Homophobic Heaven

I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this. I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I would say, sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place. ~Desmond Tutu
