Plant "Butterfly Bushes" in the chicken run for them to hide in. Chickens won't eat it & the flowers attract bugs for them to eat & it grows fast & provides shade.

Love this coop and garden. Add a chicken moat and make sure the top of run is covered with a roof. Good access to run from garden and proper door access to coop (although would move to outside of run)

For those who are thinking about getting some starter chicks for fresh eggs this year, consider hanging a feather duster in the brood box. It gives them a place to snuggle and greatly reduces stress as they have a new "momma"

Wire spool bird housing project, an absolutely fantastic concept! With all the raccoons around here I'd definitely use 1/2"x1" welded wire instead of poultry wire, but what a fabulous idea! I just love how these pigeons are living right inside the spools...

Got empty wire spools? Here's an idea!

Amish Whitewash for chicken coop interior: 1 gallon water; 2 pounds salt; 7 pounds hydrated lime. **The lime is fine so wear a respirator while mixing and gloves because it is caustic.** Use warm water, dissolve salt. Stir in lime until dissolved. Apply with sprayer or paint brush. Whitewash is not waterproof so use for indoors only. It is used to kill bacteria and vermin, to deodorize, and to brighten interiors.
