I became a Carl Hiaasen fan years ago during a brief stint in Florida (I always strive to read local authors). His crazy characters combined with sick humor and a fabulous environmentalist streak made for many happy hours on (rapidly eroding) Florida beaches. One of my few fond memories of living in Florida!

Fascinating true story of a crazy childhood. It's amazing how resilient the human spirit can be.

OK, we've probably all read this series by now, but just in case: it's totally worth reading! *Love!*

At first, the child's POV irked me, but this book really makes you think.

"In wry and sometimes hilarious prose, she stares down disaster and looks back with rage and love at the life of an extraordinary family in an extraordinary time." I'm starting to see a pattern here...

Surprisingly touching. I got the audiobook, which I think is apt. Nice to hear this in his voice. A story of triumph over some pretty steep odds.
