She is recognized for bringing French cuisine to the American public with her debut cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and her subsequent television programs, the most notable of which was The French Chef, which premiered in 1963. Her kitchen is on display at the National Museum of American History

Marguerite Duras (1914–1996), was a French writer and film director. She was born in Saigon, French Indochina. Her best-selling, apparently autobiographical work was L'Amant (1984), or The Lover. It won the Goncourt prize. Other major works include Moderato Cantabile, also made into a film of the same name, Le Ravissement de Lol V. Stein, and her play India Song, which Duras herself later directed as a film (1975).

Marguerite duras (c. 1945) was a French writer and film director. Duras was the author of many novels, plays, films, interviews, essays and short fiction, including her best-selling, highly fictionalized autobiographical work L'Amant (1984), translated into English as The Lover, which describes her youthful affair with a Chinese man. This text won the Goncourt prize in 1984. The story of her adolescence also appears in three other forms: The Sea Wall, Eden Cinema and The North China Lover.
