Prehistoric cave prints show most early artists were women. By the same token, it is now somewhat accepted that the 'venus sculptures' were self-portraits of women looking down at their own bodies. When we understand that, the paleolithic figurines lose their distorted proportions and acquire representational realism.

Venus sculptures were selfies.
Not sure if all of these interpretations are correct because a lot of anthropology of art is subjective interpretation of the pieces themselves as to their purpose, meaning, significance, societal and cultural importance and function, etc. But I do like the theories and points made by this post because history is very male-centric.

British photographer Jimmy Nelson has traveled all over the world to visit 29 indigenous tribes and capture their way of life before it's gone forever. The result is 'Before They Pass Away', a series of portraits spanning the globe from the Gauchos of Argentina to Chukchi of far northern Siberia. Nelson photographed these tribes using a 50-year-old plate film camera that captures these people and their environs in stunning clarity.

Emerald Green Glass Bowl First Century AD Early Imperial, Roman These small cast bowls are modeled in shape on Roman silverware and Arretine pottery. Likewise, the brilliant emerald green color appears to be an innovation of the Roman glass industry itself. This was probably based in Italy, although examples of such bowls, either in mosaic glass or in monochrome versions of both translucent and opaque glass, are found throughout the Roman world. Avalon Camelot King Arthur: #Arthur is buried in a glen in the Scottish Borders, a historian has claimed. Damian Bullen believes Arthur’s legendary sword Excalibur lies on the bottom of the nearby “dead lake”. The literary archeologist insists the 5th century king and his son Mordred’s remains lie under the Yarrow Stone, which was found near Selkirk 400 years ago. Bullen based his claim on analysis of the inscription on the Yarrow Stone, along with the geography surrounding it.
