Story: lights and shadow to give more depth of the 2D asset and give a more "finish" aspectand can easily give the idea of textures. 2D/3D visual aspect.can also work in a parallax world. This aspect can be associated with the idea of modern visuals.

Kinda Flat Icons PSD lately ive really been into icons, i just like how diverse they can be while still having the same base design

Paper card style ? You can collect card with character/item when you complete puzzle. Paper is a physical material, so it introduce "real dimension" in the game, with a litlle vintage aspect (because in 2015, we use more screens than books)

I like the colors in this image, zen and sweet. Imagine: you can collect little cute cubic characters or objects when you complete several puzzles! You can put it in a empty scene. After, you can share your scene or echange some items with your friends. I think it could be interesting to have your own world made with cubes,!

PIXEL ART STYLE IDEA: use some effects on pixels art. In this reference, lights aren't made with larges pixels, but with a blur brush

show us some of your pixel work

Create puzzle with little cute animals! When you fishish one puzzle, you win one new animal for your collection! Some animals are very very rare or available in limited time! After, show your collection at you friends! (Gotta catch'em all!) Very cute/sweet/attractive/colorfull visual

You're a wanderer, and you travel across the worlds to discover (make puzzle) new and fantastics animals/objects/characters... and to complete your collection! (no pokedex) I think that this reference is very insteresting, this style is very attractive and colorful/cartoon. It could be possible to merge it with another idea. For exemple: travel across the countries to dicover foods and meals.

Inspiration Mobile #5 : Interfaces autour des jeux sur mobiles

A quiet, straight-forward look at good-looking games as a reference for game creators, illustrators.

Maybe with a blocs in wood ? I think it seems more "adult" and zen. When you see this image, you think at "puzzle" and "reflexion". (no scpecific theme is this case, just a zeeeeen visual)

more detailed food pixel art means more appeal of it. unlocking famous dishes could be something very motivating, it's like the food animation of Muramasa game, the realistic aspect gives to the player the motivation to discover more dishes and is pleased to watch the animation of it. this could work for any type of food and give a sweet greedy appeal for the players. animation ref : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIxr8zQqFbw

PIXEL ART STYLE IDEA: use voxel or isometric view (For example, when you complete a puzzle, it turns to show the object/scene/character in isometric view)

Collect stories ? We should introduce a character in the game who love stories and books! In my opinion, some people likes read and appreciates book and libraries, it's a "zen" place. Also, we can add notifications on bookmarks. For example, in a book like this image, you've one story, with several puzzles inside. Maybe you can collect items/characters too. (I love this cartoon/cute style and colors on this image)

Justin Baldwin is raising funds for Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake on Kickstarter! An environmental puzzle game, akin to nostalgic dungeon-style puzzle games like The Legend Of Zelda, for iOS & Desktop.

Another "create your own world" similar idea: build you city in pixel art. For example, look this mobile game: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chillingo.pixelpeople.android.rowgplay

Mini-U: 99 Aliens on Behance

This metagame example is interesting for unlocking metagames elements or to give more understandable action for the player. it also give a strong sensation of accomplishment after resolving it. for example you make a pixel art but without any animationsand they are not in a good order. After finishing four clips you can arrange the order to find the good one and since the objective is done the last clip will be unlocked. after finishing the fifth clip, the hidden item is revealed the player…

Again a visual with "3d" colored cubes. It makes me think at a physical construction game, in a playroom. I appreciate this visual, it seems very attractive. (It's more beautiful/sweet than the legos) The player can have blocs boxes to make the puzzles? (Also, the isometric view is original for a picross game, but less easy to understand...)
