In 2000 Natalie Chanin began Project Alabama with a a collection of 200 up-cycled t-shirts, along with the documentary film "Stitch," about quilting circles in Florence, AL. Project Alabama grew quickly & became a full collection fashion company. In 2006, Project Alabama ceased operations in Alabama. Rather than outsource, Natalie decided to adhere to the original mission & launched Alabama Chanin where she continues to create limited-edition, rendered-by-hand clothing with local talent.
