This is what I consider to be a Beginner Level Feather Cat's Claw Feather There is no back tracking when stitching. I photographed the feather as I drew it out... I call this a Piggy Back Feather... Plumes are stitched on the backs of previous plumes I decided to take photos as I drew out this design: I chalk out the feather spine onto fabric... 1...... The most important part of machine quilting is the basting. Repeat after me: The Most Important Part of Machine Quilting is the Basting. For 20 years I pin basted. I would put on a movie and place a safety pin every 4 inches across the entire surface of the quilt sandwich. I actually enjoyed this process and found it relaxing. It worked fairly well to stabilize the 3 layers of the quilt sandwich and I was satisfied with the results. The only drawback was removing the safety pins as I…

I made a few more bags today, so took a few photos to create this tutorial: Baby Chick Feed Sack Trim up the bottom and top edges of the bag to remove the stitched perforations on the bag... Cut off 2 strips.....2.5 inches each From the bottom or top end of the bag. These will be the bag handles. Turn the bag inside out: Clean and wipe off the inside of the bag... I am currently working on a series of Barn Lot Quilts. My supply of rust dyed fabric is getting low… Time to make more Rust Dyed Fabric: 100% White Cotton Fabric Kosher Salt White Vinegar 2 Yards of Fabric 1/4 cup of salt Enough vinegar to saturate the fabric well Scrunch up the fabric to mix in the salt and vinegar. The fabric is wet, but not sitting in a puddle of liquid. Most any rusty object works well for rust dyeing: I am rusting yardage, so I am using a very large culvert screen. 40…

Here's a sneak peek...I spent the day free motion quilting on the sunflower quilt. I am using a Bernina 153 QE. Someday I would love to have a George Long Arm Machine. Yesterday I pieced the warm & natural batting then spray basted the quilt sandwich. This is the largest quilt I have machine quilted...100 inches square.
