Edmund of York. Younger son of Plantagenet king Edward III, and founder of the House of York. His son was Richard of Cambridge, and grandson Richard of York. His great-grandsons became Kings Edward IV and Richard III. Edmund's family and that of his brother, John of Gaunt (House of Lancaster) were the warring factions in the War of the Roses, each family trying to hold their stake on the throne.

Blanche of Lancaster, Duchess of Lancaster (25 March 1345 – 12 September 1368) was an English noblewoman & heiress, daughter of England's wealthiest and most powerful peer, Henry of Grosmont, 1st Duke of Lancaster. She was the first wife of John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster, and the mother of King Henry IV of England. It is believed that Blanche may have died aged 22 after contracting the Black Death which was rife in Europe at that time. John of Gaunt held annual commemorations of her death
