Architects Thomas W.S. Craven and Floyd E. Johnson were inspired by neoclassical architecture when planning Summer Duck Wood, the estate of Mary and James H.T. McConnell in Rapidan, Virginia. The fieldstone-clad house was built as a half octagon, a longtime favorite form in the area. The library, which draws heavily on Nancy Lancaster’s Little Haseley in England, was decorated by Tino Zervudachi.
