HH Holmes lured women into his hotel in Chicago and killed them by asphyxiation and suffocation in rooms that opened only from the outside. There were doors that opened to reveal only brick walls, and there were staircases that led nowhere. In 1895 a mysterious fire consumed the building Holmes had so carefully constructed, and all forensic evidence was destroyed. The land was unused until the 1930s when the government constructed a post office on the site.

Ed Gein and Albert Fish were, in my opinion, the worst serial killers of all time.

Another man had already been tried, convicted and hanged for the murder of the little girl. Jane Toppan "Jolly Jane" - One of the most prolific female serial killers who killed over 70 people. She thought of herself as "The Angel of Death" for good reason. She experimented on patients with atropine, strychnine and morphine. At that time serial killers were barely known. Jack the Ripper was probably one of the few references available at that time. She was one of the first New England serial killers.
