Faith Ringwald Project -- had 3rd graders do this last year for Veteran's Day but I think it would take less time for 5th grade so they would have more time to write their tributes in the white spaces. They had a really great reception at our public receptions for the veterans.
Today's Document from the National Archives - this website posts a primary document from each day that corresponds with the current date on the calendar. This not only exposes students to primary documents and could spark discussion, but also makes history seem more relevant. This could be a good site to build activities for people who finish projects or tests early. This would ensure that students are still learning valuable historical information, but would not be seen as an extra assignment.
Brilliant. Kids will be able to relate to this. Especially awesome for the ancient history unit we'll be doing.
