Edinburgh's Christmas and Hogmanay events are spectacular, not least of which is the torchlight procession headed up by Lerwick's Jarl's Squad. We watched the festivities this year from the Mound then walked to Calton Hill to see the fireworks and it was quite simply amazing. A great time to visit Edinburgh, but bring your woollies!
Holyrood Park is on the doorstep of both of our holiday apartments (see www.holyroodparkselfcatering.co.uk) and is our favourite spot in Edinburgh. A piece of the country right in the heart of the city. Take a stroll, a walk, a jog, a run, a hike, a scramble or...just breathe! Enjoy.
Oh the Castle the Castle. No self respecting visitor to Edinburgh can avoid it. It's well worth it, if only just for the view. But a word of advice ...book your tickets in advance. The ticket queues can be horrendous, even off season.
The Annual Edinburgh Military Tattoo is by all accounts the highlight of the Festival season.....and I've never managed to see it yet!! This year for the second time the Esplanade will be graced by the appearance of Shetland's own Hjaltibonhoga fiddlers who went down a storm last year. The whole experience is breathtaking, tear jerking, hairs on the back of your neck exciting so try and grab a ticket if you can..and beat me to it!
Our favourite place to eat in Edinburgh. Buffet style dining incorporating Chinese, Indian, Thai, Korean and European dishes. And.....ooooh, the desserts. Watch out for the chocolate fountain! Booking recommended.
Two well appointed two bedroom ground floor flats in the city centre, close to the Royal Mile, the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Holyrood Park. Please view our website www.holyroodparkselfcatering.co.uk for more details and to book your next holiday
