From the late 17th to the 19th century, the Grand Tour was a trip, which had for destination: Italy , Egypt and Greece. The traveler went to the roots of Western culture to meet the Greek and Roman civilizations. Travellers had to bring back souvenirs of these journey, to prove they belongs to the upper class. Those souvenirs were for example : Vedute of Canaletto, Piranesi engravings, intaglios, engraved gems representing works of art or marble sculptures.
