45 I wonder questions - great journal ideas or quick finishers prompts!
My students last year loved having whole class journals to write in. They had a chance to write in them during Work on Writing, and a chance to read them during Read to Self. I made up a new set of 8. At the moment they are pretty plain covers, but once a student writes in it they have the option of choosing a sticker from my collection to place on the front cover. The stickers show me how many kids have tackled each topic.
Whole class journals..each student can write in them on a certain topic and the class can read them at different time.

Writing Workshop: This writing workshop blog relates to a lot of what Fletcher and Portalupi discuss in "Writing Workshop." This teacher starts with a quick mini lesson, provides independent writing time, then ends the workshop with sharing time. Fletcher and Portalupi note that writing workshop should include a 5-10 minute mini-lesson, 35-45 minutes for writing, and leave 10-20 minutes for share time. (P.11) This teacher decided to start out with procedural lessons to get the students to start thinking about ideas of what to write about. Fletcher and Portapuli suggest sharing some stories from your own life to get the students thinking about what they want to write about. (p. 37) This teacher came up with a really creative way for students to start generating a list of ideas. The "Looping Stories" has the students start out writing about a 1 word topic for one minute. Then they stop where they are and pick one word from that product and start writing about that word on the next page. They can do this 4 or 5 times. By the end of this process, students have a bunch of things to write about. They also can see that it's okay to change your mind and start writing something new, writing is does not have to be permanent. The teacher started out with her own example going from food to her Dad to family. This is a great because it shows the students they she was writing too. Fletcher and Portapuli state that this sends a great message to the students, that a grown up is doing what they are too, so they will take it more seriously and want to do it with you. (p. 38). This also relates to fostering a love for writing time. Fletcher and Portapuli note that writers work best when they "feel a sense of ownership-personal investment- in their writing" (p.23). With this "Looping Stories" lesson, the students "own" all of the topics they are generating and know that it truly comes from their personal ideas or stories. Since this lesson has students generate many different topics to write about, you are already tackling one of the challenges of a writing workshop; getting students to be confident writers and enjoy writing. By showing them how many things they can write about and how easy it can be to come up with ideas, they will enjoy writing more and be confident in their ability to write. These are part of the short-term goals discussed in "Writing Workshop."

DIY Write and Wipe Preschool Worksheets (she: Chelsea) - found this website, http://www.first-school.ws/INDEX.HTM it has all kinds of stuff but they also had different worksheets with the alphabet, so I printed two different sheets for each letter and put them in a three ring binder in sheet protectors. You can use dry erase markers on sheet protectors and wipe them right off when you are done, its perfect!
Kids love dry erase...use worksheets, sheet protectors & dry erase markers. Ummm duh, good idea :-)
sheet Protector wipe "boards"... This would be GREAT for writing center practice
worksheets in binder with dry erase marker. This is such a great idea. I can use the same book pages for all of my kids without having to buy new books. I can use the same plastic sheets and switch out the pages, and it really works so great!

Word Identification: Compound Words- I would use this strategy by using plastic Easter eggs instead of just paper to create a visual for compound words. The compound words strategy supports word identification because it teaches students to notice the words that make up compound words individually along with together as a compound.
