369The 369th Infantry Regiment was a regiment of African American soldiers fighting on WWI. They were awarded the Croix de Guerre from the French for their bravery.
The 369th Infantry Regiment, formerly the 15th New York National Guard Regiment, was an regiment of the US Army that saw action in World War I and World War II. The 369th Infantry is known for being the first African-American regiment to serve with the American Expeditionary Force during World War I. The regiment was nicknamed the Harlem Hellfighters. These men from the regiment were awarded the Croix De Guerre by the Government of France. (Record Group 165, ARC 533492)

The woman in the centre of the line is playing a harmonica. Photographer Paul Martin is regarded as a pioneer of photo journalism. In 1892 he bought a 'Facile,' a popular hand camera made by Fallowfield of London. He disguised the camera as a leather case, able to work unobserved and take the candid photographs of daily life which are now recognised as his greatest work.
