Pacific Trash Vortex
Plastic Bottle, Water Bottle, Plastic Bags, Theocean, Food Chains, Garbage Patches, The Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Pacific Garbage
it is in our food chain and is trashing the oceans and killing sea life
Yay for Seattle's plastic bag ban. The Pacific Garbage Patch has gotten 100x worse in 40 years.
no more plastic bottles.
This so sad :-( If you ever repin anything-let's repin this-it's a picture of 'trash island' a gigantic 'island' of plastics and other trash floating in the Pacific Ocean and, most likely, others. There is tons of info available online-let's educate each other, our children and ourselves. We cannot afford for this to continue. Maybe we can all just buy one less box of plastic water bottles this summer. Let's do it. Let's start something good. I'm in, are you?
If you thought the Great Pacific Garbage Patch was a nightmare, things just got worse — it has a twin. Scientists have found a matching patch in the Atlantic Ocean that stretches for thousands of square miles and they warn the phenomenon is likely to exist in still more places around the globe. The Atlantic patch was found by the Five Gyres Project hiding in a remote area of the ocean between Bermuda and Portugal’s mid-Atlantic Azores islands.
Garbage in the ocean The North Pacific Gyre An island of trash twice the size of Texas floats in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, circulated by the currents of the North Pacific Gyre. The trash, which is mostly made up of plastic debris, floats as deep as 30 feet below the surface. THE BERKELEY PIT: Located in Montana, US, this former open-pit mine helped to 'electrify America' with its Copper. Today, it is filled with 40 billion gallons of acidic water and heavy metals, and is home to weird and wonderful new fungal/bacterial species.

Sometimes a fire just won't go out. Uzbekistan is home to a place called Darvaz, nicknamed by locals "the door to hell." It's a semi-underground gas fire that's been burning nonstop for 35 years. Find out why, and see some close-up pictures of this hellmouth after the jump, plus another fire in Pennsylvania that has also been burning underground for over 30 years.
The Door To Hell In 1971, a group of geologists working in a tiny Turkmenistan village called Derweze, accidentally stumbled across a subterranean cavern after the ground in which they were drilling for natural gas collapsed. Unsure what gases were escaping from within and concerned that it was in fact toxic, the geologists made the decision to set the gas alight, as burning gas is safer and more environmentally friendly than allowing it to be released into the atmosphere. Little did they know that setting the gas alight would lead to the crater of natural gas to continue burning strong some 35 years later. To this day, the Darvaza (“the gate” in Turkmen language) has shown no sign of burning out. It is unknown how many metric tonnes of natural gas has been burned over the past three decades, nor is it known how many decades more it will continue to burn. The prediction is at least another 100 years. An impressive 60 metres in diameter and more than 20 metres deep, the locals of Derweze call it the Door To Hell. By nighttime, the Darvaza’s glow can be seen from a long distance, giving the image of being a literal door to Hell. Moths, spiders and insects are drawn in the thousands to the Darvaza’s mesmerising glow. The heat produced by the burning gas is so intense that one cannot stand near the edge of the Door to Hell for more than a few seconds.
The Gates of Hell: burning gas crater in Turkmenistan
This place in Turkmenistan is called by locals “The Door to Hell”. It is situated near the small town of Darvaz. The story of this place lasts already for 40 years. Once the geologists were drilling for gas. Then suddenly during the drilling they have found an underground cavern, it was so big that all the drilling site with all the equipment and camps got deep deep under the ground. None dared to go down there because the cavern was filled with gas. So they ignited it so that no poisonous gas could come out of the hole, and since then, it’s burning, already for 35 years without any pause. Nobody knows how many tons of excellent gas has been burned for all those years but it just seems to be infinite there.

Dear God, we take so much for granted - I repinned this to my board to remind me of all that I have as I continuously post all of my wants I so rarely stop and think of others needs. I ask Lord that you stop me and break my heart as it states above "Let my heart be broken by the things that break your heart God". In your precious son's name, Amen This is SOOO heart breaking! God bless them!

When I came across this image on Pinterest I could hardly bear to look at it. The original pinner's description says exactly how I felt. Dear God, we take so much for granted - I repinned this to my board to remind me of all that I have as I continuously post all of my wants I so rarely stop and think of others needs. I ask Lord that you stop me and break my heart as it states above "Let my heart be broken by the things that break your heart God".... This is so heartbreaking.
Thanks Em for this reality check. There are no words only tears. We must help. Dear God, we take so much for granted - I repinned this to my board to remind me to be grateful and that we must help others as much as possible. water bottle shoes ... be thankful.
humbled. And we complain bec we can't get a new pair of shoes this season. New perspective. #christovereverything god christ hope love world life faith jesus cross christian bible quotes dreams truth humble patient gentle
Only if you've walked a mile in his shoes are you ever allowed to bitch about your life!
We should remember this when we say we "need" new shoes.
I need this reminder every day. Every. single. day. I need to remember the blessings that I have in my life. We always think of these simple needs including clothes, food, clean water, a house to come home to but another basic need that we may take for granted is shoes. Seen from this picture above he has created shoes from bottles and rope and most people in third world nations don't even have this 'luxury' of created shoes.. They simply don't have any. That's why I feel the need to be thankful and appreciative even more so that my needs are met. Be thankful for everything around me. The opportunities that I have available. What I have and who I have in my life and most of all that I have an Amazing God that has done this all for me!
makes you look at your life from a different perspective. be thankful. be grateful.
