The wacky looking space village is located in San-zhi, on the outskirts of Taipei in Northern Taiwan. It was originally constructed for wealthy urbanites looking to escape the city on weekends. The most popular story of its eventual decline claim a number of mysterious accidents ending in numerous deaths led to the halt of all construction. Locals believe the area to be haunted.

Sanzhi UFO Houses, San Zhi (Taiwan)
Invasion of the pod people! This rusting, abandoned “town” in Taiwan looks like funky set props from an old "Star Trek" movie. In reality, it was conceived as housing in 1978 for U.S. military personnel stationed in eastern Asia. Rumors that it was haunted stemmed from several fatal accidents on the site — or maybe the theory that it was built on an old burial ground for Dutch soldiers from the 1600s. Or maybe it was that dragon sculpture that builders disturbed to widen the road that brought...
n 1978, the Taiwanese government began subsidizing an architectural project that involved building futuristic pods for the rich to use as summer villas. However, the investment capital disappeared in 1980 before the project was completed, and the architecture company went bankrupt. One major reason that San-Zhi failed was because of intense local superstitions. Several fatal accidents occurred during construction, and as the number of fatalities increased, the government withdrew its support.
Sanzhi UFO houses or Sanzhi Pod City - a set of abandoned pod-shaped buildings in Taipei, Taiwan. They were intended to be a vacation resort when construction began in 1978, but the project was abandoned in 1980; in late 2008 plans were made to tear down the buildings instead of turning them into a tourist attraction (as of 2010, all UFO houses have been demolished) - Wikipedia
