Letter walk: walk around the neighborhood looking for letters on signs, and then fold down tab on the plate. This would make a great car activity too!

In kindergarten (and 1st grade) we’ve been learning about classroom instruments. First we sang the song “Aiken Drum”, which is a silly song about a man who lives in the moon and is made of all different types of food. We clapped the rhythm of each food as we sang the song (which is easy for words with one or two syllables, more challenging for “macaroni and cheese”). In the next lesson, we made his body out of classroom instruments and arranged them on the floor

LOVE how this teacher painted the sides so she can instantly see who she has called on! No more piles of sticks next to the can! :)

Word boxes: If a student doesn't know how to spell a word, they check the card in the box. If it's not there, they bring the card to me, we spell it together, and then the card goes back in its spot when they're done. Promotes independent writers!

Don't waste time sifting through piles of worksheets - save yourself the headache and create a “master book,” a tool that organizes all your papers and keeps them all in one place. Tackle your mound of papers by sorting through each one, tossing what you don't need and keeping one copy of every important worksheet. Place them in a 3-ring binder with dividers for each month. ( check this out later)
