n Gone Girl, Amy talks about the temptation of being the woman a man wants but ultimately she doesn’t give in to that temptation to be “the girl who likes every fucking thing he likes and doesn’t ever complain.” Unlikable women refuse to give in to that temptation. They are, instead, themselves. They accept the consequences of their choices and those consequences become stories worth reading.

i was told this is a good book. on the list to read! The Last Lecture - Randy Pausch
The Last Lecture - Randy Pausch One of my favorite books!
The Last Lecture. Definitely worth reading and sad at the same time. I think his perspective and outlook on life and love was amazing. Don't buy online - every thrift store probably has a copy for a buck. By Randy Pausch
The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch A lot of life lessons here.
For the late Randy Pausch, living out his childhood dreams was an obsession. It is fitting, then, that he made this the theme of the last lecture he delivered at Carnegie Melon University before he died. The Last Lecture is an elaboration of Pausch's philosophy of life that he wrote to leave as a legacy for his three children. Book Club
The Last Lecture, one of the best and most inspiring books I've ever read! Randy Pausch was one of the most inspiring people I've ever had the pleasure to hear and read about! Makes me want to live my life in his footsteps.
Very good book, worth reading.

Gone Girl #read
This is an awesome book!
Gone Girl ~ Gillian Flynn. This has moved up to the top of my reading list! I can't wait to start it, I've heard such good things. Here's a teaser: A young wife mysteriously disappears on the couple's 5th anniversary. As the story unfolds, their relationship is explored and exposed through the husband's guilty reactions and feelings of anger and through the missing woman's diary, detailing the slow unraveling of their life together. Did the husband 'do away with her'?
Gone Girl- crazy, insane, could NOT put it down! Gillian Flynn is ah-mazing!!!
Gone Girl: Gillian Flynn. I read this book in less than 24 hours. I started it on my lunch break at work then spent the whole next day (which I was lucky enough to have off) finishing the book in bed. It’s a riveting page turner where I just had to know what happens next! I can’t say any more than that, really, without giving things away. Read it!( Posted by another person but my book club 2013)Tracee

my favorite book of the last year A Reliable Wife
"A Reliable Wife," Robert Goolrick enjoyed by book club group
on my to be read list: He placed a notice in a Chicago paper, an advertisement for a “reliable wife.” She responded, saying that she was “a simple, honest woman.” She was, of course, anything but honest, and the only simple thing about her was her single-minded determination to marry this man and then kill him, slowly and carefully, leaving herself a wealthy widow. What Catherine Land did not realize was that the enigmatic and lonely Ralph Truitt had a plan of his own.
Worth reading. 3-4 stars

Life of Pi

The Life of Pi is an adventure with religious overtones by Yann Martel. It tells the story of an Indian boy named Piscine Molitor "Pi" Patel. Pi is a smart lad who begins to experiment with spirituality at a young age. Growing up a Hindu he is introduced to both Islam and Christianity and finds positive and powerful messages in all three religions, and begins to mix the three of them together in a unique hole. He states he, "just wants to be loved by god". The story of the Life of Pi is set in the three major sections. The first section is an introduction to Pi and an understanding of his life, religious views and understanding of animals due to his life with his family who own a zoo in India. The second section of the story starts when his family is supposed to move to Canada by boat. The whole zoo's menagerie goes along with them and in the course of the trip the ship goes down. High is able to escape and end up on a lifeboat with a Bengal Tiger, a hyena, an orangutan and a zebra. Much of the story takes place with what happens on that trip and how he and the tiger survived alone at sea for 227 days. The final part of the story shows Pi meeting with customs officials. Since the customs officials did not find any animals they do not believe his story. Pi then retells the story of a far more horrible voyage for Pi and asks the officials which truth they find to be the better one. The Life of Pi Movie is being written by David Magee and is being directed by the famous director, Ang Lee.
Life of Pi - Yann Martel - I read it again for book club! Still good!

F. Scott Fitzgerald was one of the major American writers of the twentieth century. The Great Gatsby is a portrait of the Jazz Age in all of its decadence and excess, Gatsby captured the spirit of the author's generation and earned itself a permanent place in American mythology. Self-made, self-invented millionaire Jay Gatsby embodies some of Fitzgerald's--and his country's--most abiding obsessions: money, ambition, greed, and the promise of new beginnings.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald: want to read (can't believe i didn't have to read this in high school.)

I read this book shortly after the passing of my brother William and I must say it brought a different perspective and an odd sense of comfort that his reality while very different then mine now is still one filled with love, friendship and above all else the greatest understanding of life as we each call it. Def. not your average novel but I highly recommend this book to anyone that has lost a friend, love or family.

Book Review: The Girl Who Played with Fire - This series has been misrepresented (or at least I have misunderstood it.) The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a prequel to the second and third books. Which are just split because of length, but are really one book. The second and third books are much better than the first. This is a thriller/mystery book worth reading. Interesting to see how a different legal system affects the story line. Click through for the full review.
