Ride the Tour de France High Passes. 'Tourmalet remains one of the classic Tour ascents, drawing hordes of cycling pilgrims, as does Col du Galibier, the first Alpine climb introduced into the race (in 1911). Prime among the other famed climbs are the Alpe d’Huez (first raced in 1952) and Mont Ventoux (1951), rising mighty above the Rhône valley. All four passes have been ranked hors categorie, meaning they’re so steep as to be beyond classification.' http://www.lonelyplanet.com/france

Mont Ventoux, France...What looks like snow is actually reflection off rock -it's a moonscape at the top and very windy (venteux!) It took me about 2 hours to cycle to the top.
