Memoir Girls, Trafficking Girls, Exploited Girls, Book Girls, Young Girls
An empowering book by a very strong woman, Rachel Lloyd. Her brave words and actions should inspire us all to help victims of the horrendous crime of international and domestic sex trafficking!!!
Rachel Lloyd's memoir...founder of G.E.M.S and changing the lives of sexually exploited girls--one of the organizations we are proud to support!
Rachel Lloyd’s riveting survivor story is the true tale of her hard-won escape from the commercial sex industry and her bold founding of GEMS, New York City’s Girls Education and Mentoring Service, to help countless other young girls escape "the life."
The Girls Like Us campaign is about fighting for a world where Girls Are Not For Sale! Inspired by Rachel Lloyd’s memoir Girls Like Us, the Girls Like Us campaign connects individuals from all walks of life to stand in solidarity with survivors to end commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking of girls and young women. // Need to read.

The basis for the Lifetime movie! Beatrice "Trixie" Stone (Brittany Robertson, "Avalon High") accuses boyfriend Jason of date rape; he insists it's consensual. The story soon gets controversial and complicated. Trixie's mom (Kelly Preston) just happens to teach about Dante and his nine circles; her dad (Ron Eldard) is a comic book artist (Picoult wrote "Wonder Woman" some time in her career).
You know you have a favorite author when you make a life goal to read all of her books before you die. So far I have read 12 of them.
Comic book artist Daniel Stone, a stay-at-home dad with a fourteen-year-old daughter Trixie, and an unfaithful wife, turns a blind eye to Trixie's first broken heart and wife Laura's affair, but the feelings of rage he has buried for years come to the surface when Trixie is raped at a party and accuses her former boyfriend.
The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult [I don't like this one as much as other Jodi Picoult books]
All of her books are worth reading!
my favorite book. ever.
on my reading list...
Another heart-wrenching book by Jodi Piccoult. How delighted I was to discover that I had an unread book by one of my favorite authors. This one deals with the Amish community and what happens when their faith is juxtaposed with the American legal system. It makes you think about what forgiveness really means.
One of my favorites by Jodi Picoult.

Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult *A contemporary Amish tale. The premise of the book is a dead infant to a Amish teenager who SWEARS up & down she did not kill her baby. Her attorney is from the city & is running from demons of her own but, begrundgingly lands herself in this strange society with their constant rules defending the young teenager. Very good book that they also made a Lifetime movie of."
Amish! This is my favorite of Jodi Picoult's books, and one of my favorite books in general. Well researched in portraying the Amish characters, and a fantastic "didn't see that coming" ending. Highly recommend this one!
I think this was the first Jodi Picoult book I ever read. She has become one of my favorite authors.
My first and favorite Jodi Picoult book! Whenever I have 'book discussions' with people and tell them this. She is the best writer today. When I picked up her first book, "Plain Truth" I thought she was an amish writer because her story placed me in that situation. I have read every book since then and each one still gives me that feeling and makes me questions the information that I use to make decisions about life.

A great read about how we come to make decisions, Nineteen Minutes centers around the story of a high school shooting, and is told, in classic Jodi Picoult style, from 5 different viewpoints using flashbacks and opinions about the present day.
My very favoritest Jodi Picoult book. Very thought provoking when you consider the mental anguish the bullies did to the poor young man...
This book is about a gun shooting that occured at a high school. Like all Jodi Picoult books there are a number of different characters whose viewpoints you are shown, featuring the shooter and a student who was friends with some of those killed during the shooting.
This is such an amazing book, it is kind of hard to read because it could actually happen! She is an amazing writer and love her work! Jodi Picoult is awesome!
Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult is about a school shooting and how it eternally changes lives.
Nineteen Minutes - Jodi Picoult: Sterling is an ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever happens--until the day its complacency is shattered by a school shooting. Josie Cormier, the daughter of the judge sitting on the case, should be the state's best witness, but she can't remember what happened before her very own eyes--or can she? As the trial progresses, fault lines between the high school and the adult community begin to show--destroying the closest of friendships and families. Books
This was my first Jodi Picoult book and she quickly became a favorite author of mine.

Asperger, Reading List, Favorite Book, Favorite Author, Dust Cover, Books Book, Picoult Book
I often feel as if I have grown out of Jodi Picoult books. Whenever I think of her, I think of your typical romance novels full of cliches and unrealistic expectations. House Rules is the opposite of that. About a boy with aspergers who will go to all ends of the earth to follow the "rules" layed out by his mother.
House rules - Jodi Picoult The thriller that follows the struggle of a boy with Asperger's as he is accused of murder, and a mother in denial. Begs the question of the role of pleading insanity in our society today. Great book.
House Rules by Jodi Picoult. A teenager with Asperger's Sydrome becomes the focus of a murder investigation. #book #review #Picoult
House Rules- an amazing book about a teenager with Aspergers. Gives amazing insight without being boring.
House rules - Jodi Picoult The thriller that follows the struggle of a boy with Asperger's as he is accused of murder, and a mother in denial. This was the one I was trying to remember @Andrea Reed
HOUSE RULES is about Jacob Hunt, a teenage boy with Asperger’s Syndrome. He’s hopeless at reading social cues or expressing himself well to others, and like many kids with AS, Jacob has a special focus on one subject – in his case, forensic analysis. A great book.
House Rules- Wonderful book that give an intimate portrait of a family who has a child with Asperger's Syndrome in it.
On my "To Read" list. Looks like another classic Picoult, which I have dubbed the "Gloom & Doom" Series---ALL involve tragedy. "When your son can’t look you in the eye . . . does that mean he’s guilty? Jacob Hunt is a teen with Asperger’s syndrome. He’s hopeless at reading social cues or expressing himself well ways. But he has a special focus on one subject—forensic analysis. A police scanner in his room clues him in to crime scenes..."

The Zion Book Club selection for May is The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. The group will meet on Monday, May 9, at 7pm in the Library. Freelance writer Walls doesn't pull her punches. She opens ...
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls was an amazing book, and I recommend it from Grade 8 through age 99! In this autobiography, Jeannette Walls is like a gypsy, traveling with her odd family across the country on low funds. You start the book with the version of her older self, an accomplished & rich student, looking out on her homeless parents. But then the book takes you back to the start, and a heart felt journey begins to where Jeannette is now.
September's Book Club pick: The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation. Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children. As the dysfunction of the family escalated, Jeannette and her brother and sisters had to fend for themselves, supporting one another as they weathered their parents' betrayals and, finally, found the resources and will to leave home.
This is on my "to read" list... The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls - amazing book!

Half Broke Horses- so cool that it overlaps with the glass castle, although I wonder now if I should have read this one first?
Half Broke Horses by Jeanette Walls. I love this author, i think she is fantastic and her style of reading is so easy to and relatable to read. i read glass castle a couple years ago and just never got around to reading this one.
Half Broke Horses: A True-Life Novel. Kind of a prequel to The Glass Castle about Walls's grandmother. Couldn't be called a memoir because she had already passed. Good but not great.
If you read the Glass Castle....and loved it, then you must add this to your reading list too!

Room by Emma Donoghue: A book with a one word title. 4.5/5. Read it in 1 week. Intense and emotionally heavy content. Told from the perspective of the 5 year old son, which is a creative and softer way to tell such a heavy story. Beautiful in how life-affirming it was about the son's value and life. Still wanted a more redemptive and hopeful ending.
It is told from the point of view of a 5 year old boy who has been locked up with his kidnapped mom since birth. Summer read?
Room. Narrated by a 5 year old boy who has lived his whole life in the room his mother is kept in by her kidnapper. Really good.
I read this book in just over a day. It was really that good. Written from the perspective of a 5 year old boy who has spent his entire life in captivity....even though he didn't really know it.
Written from the perspective of a 5 year old, this book is amazing! I read it in one day...could not put it down!

The Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest
Worth Reading, Hornetsnest, Books I Ve, Hornet S Nest, Dragon Tattoos, Hornets Nest, Stieg Larsson, Books Books, Favorite Books
As the finale to Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest is not content to merely match the adrenaline-charged pace that made international bestsellers out of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire. Instead, it roars with an explosive storyline that blows the doors off the series and announces that the very best has been saved for last.
And so we come to the end, the third book in Swedish writer Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy. Hornet’s Nest has all the signature elements that have made this series so magnetic and unforgettable. The dark government plot. The twisty action sequences. The crisp, abrupt dialogue. The technology. But most of all, this book is all revenge, all the time.
