New Living Barbie was marketed to be able to do everything you can do - tilt her head, wave and wiggle her hands, bend her elbows and bend her knees. The advertisement said she "twists left and right and bends at the waist like a willow." She has pretty, extra-long lashes (no falsies here!). And I love that fab gold and silver lame' bodysuit! In 1970, Mattel introduced the first fully posable Barbie doll, Dramatic New Living Barbie. She could tilt her head, bend her knees and elbows, pose her ankles, rotate her wrists, swing her arms and swivel at her waist. She could even do the splits! She was available in blonde, titian red or brunette hair. In 1971 "New" was dropped from her name and was shortened to "Dramatic Living Barbie." She was packaged in a new box and came in a polka-dotted swimsuit with a matching wrap.

Growing Up Skipper #7259 (Barbie’s little sister) debuted in 1975 but was discontinued in 1977 amid controversy over how her body “grows.” Like many people, you may not have heard about Growing Up Skipper until the Barbie movie came out! She’s one of Mattel’s “uh-ohs” like Sugar Daddy Ken, lol. Her pal is 1976 Growing Up Ginger who has the same growing mechanism.

Growin’ Pretty Hair Barbie #1144 came with cute hairpieces – curls and braids – and accessories to complete her fun look. You could also style her blonde hair yourself with her little hair tools. The 1971 version was blonde with a side part, wore a pink dress and had pink ribbons on her hair accessories. The 1972 Growin' Pretty Hair Barbie wore a peasant / empire dress and the bow on her hairpieces was blue.The latter Barbie is worth more to collectors.

In 1975, a black male doll was introduced by Mattel as a friend of Ken's - Free Moving Curtis #7282. He's hard to find. He has the Brad head mold and his outfit is identical to Free Moving Ken’s but in orange. Curtis is Cara's boyfriend. The Free Moving line of dolls have a tab on their backs that allow their body to rotate, bend or twist. They came with golf clubs, tennis rackets and balls. Sweet 16 Barbie celebrated her 16th birthday on March 9, 1975. She wore a long pink polka-dotted dress and came with long denim shorts and a yellow tank with the #16 on it. Her accessories included a pink cosmetics compact case, a brush and comb, 2 applicators & sponges, and 4 barrettes. The Truly Scrumptious Doll was one of the first celebrity Barbie Dolls based on a character from the movie Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang. There were two Truly Scrumptious Barbie Dolls - a standard one on the straight leg Midge/Barbie body and a Talking Truly Scrumptious. Both dolls have a Francie head with blue eyes, rooted eyelashes and blonde hair pulled back in a low ponytail. Both dolls were only made for one year. The Talking doll is the one on the left wearing the hot pink satin bodice.
The Truly Scrumptious Standard Barbie #1108, is a straight leg, non-twist waist, celebrity doll based on British actress Sally Howes in the 1968 movie, Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang. There was also a Talking Truly Scrumptious Barbie #1107 who talked and had bendable legs and wore a darker pink dress. Both have a Francie doll head with a Midge body, blue eyes, rooted lashes and blonde hair. They were only produced in 1969 and are considered hard-to-find. This photo is from Marl & B.
