I have done this lesson twice, once with year 6 and another time with a 3/4 class. Both times were a success. Be sure to remind kids that they will get light headed when using straws to create their hair. Steps i used: 1: draw face/shoulders in lead pencil 2: Colour in with oil pastels 3: Outline with permanent marker 4: Use food dye for hair - do this by placing a drop of food dye at scalp of drawing and blowing upwards (or whatever way you decide).
